Pearson & Marr - Jungian Framework
Twelve Heroic Archetypes
Universal motivations drawn from Jung’s collective unconscious, organized across three developmental clusters - Ego, Soul, and Self. Each archetype is a chapter of a single journey toward wholeness.
Establishing basic security
The Ego types ground the psyche: safety, belonging, proving worth, caring for others. They are the first archetypal stages to emerge and the foundation for everything after.
The Innocent
“Free to be you and me.”
Core Desire
To get to paradise.
The Everyman
“All people are created equal.”
Core Desire
Connection with others; belonging.
The Hero
“Where there's a will, there's a way.”
Core Desire
Prove worth through courageous action.
The Caregiver
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Core Desire
To help and protect others.
The internal quest for identity
The Soul types are activated in the call to individuation - freedom, rebellion, intimacy, and creation. They drive the hero's descent and return.
The Explorer
“Don't fence me in.”
Core Desire
Freedom to find out who you are by exploring the world.
The Rebel
“Rules are made to be broken.”
Core Desire
Revolution; to overturn what doesn't work.
The Lover
“You're the only one.”
Core Desire
Intimacy and experience.
The Creator
“If you can imagine it, it can be done.”
Core Desire
Create something of enduring value.
Integration, wisdom, and order
The Self types express wholeness. Having journeyed, they bring play, truth, transformation, and structure back to the world.
The Jester

Core Desire
To live in the moment with full enjoyment.
The Sage
“The truth will set you free.”
